Maternity Pictures - 8 Months of Memories

Isabella Oliver Dress c/o // River Island Pumps c/o (sold out, save, splurge) // Nixon Watch c/o // Kendra Scott Necklace c/o

Originally I didn't plan on taking maternity pictures at all, but the more I thought about it, I knew I would just regret it if I didn't.  The next difficult task was figuring out what to wear.  I can count on about 2 hands how many outfits I can fit into right now so you can imagine how fun it was to figure out what to wear.  I literally tore my closet apart picking out contenders.  I thought since it was such a special day and time to commemorate in our lives I would ask Shane's opinion.  He immediately said - the blue floral form-fitting dress.  I should have guessed.  = )  I don't usually wear very fitted clothing - that goes for both before and after pregnancy, but he seemed so excited, so I had to take his advice.  I am so glad I did.  I love this gorgeous Isabella Oliver liberty print dress.  Really, I just love anything in liberty print!  I think the blue turned out perfectly against the landscape in the photos, and I couldn't be happier!

I used my normal photographer because I think that there are especially two times when you don't want to go with the unfamiliar as far as photography goes - on your wedding day and on the day of your maternity photo session.  You definitely want to feel comfortable with the person taking your photos so you can be yourself.  My photographer Emily is not only my photographer, but she is my friend.  She knows exactly what backgrounds I like, what look I go for and what style of photos I like best.  She listens to me, and she is just so easy to work with.  I thought it would be really fun to try a different location, but when you're 8 months pregnant and it is almost 100 degrees outside, it is best to go for a location that is a little more predictable.  One with a restroom nearby is best so you can use the mirror to freshen up your makeup and hair or even change outfits.  The next thing that I think is so important when taking maternity photos is to wear something that you feel comfortable in.  It was HOT the day we were taking photos, so I was glad to be wearing a very comfortable dress.  You also want to make sure you feel comfortable in your own skin.  I didn't want to do anything too drastically different than what I normally do, because I wanted these pictures to be "me" but of course I also wanted them to stand out and be special.

The more I look at these photos, the more I actually love them.  I framed one in my house and just love it, but I also wanted to find another way to treasure this special time in mine and Shane's lives forever, so I decided to order prints and make an album.  I wanted to include not only maternity pictures, but also my baby shower invitations, cards and ribbons.  I ordered the prints from Shutterfly, but since they were running a special for 50 free prints when I signed up, I figured I might as well get plenty more prints for my album.  I thought it would be fun to actually document my entire pregnancy.  At times like this, I really appreciate having all of my outfits documented on my blog.  I am 8 months pregnant right now, so I scrolled through the last 8 months worth of outfit posts and picked out about 1 or 2 of my favorites from each of the last 8 months.  I thought this would be such a fun and creative way to keep those memories special forever and also to look back over the months and see how much little Leighton has grown (a lot in case you couldn't tell!)  = )  I have received my prints, and once I have made it 9 months, I can't wait to add a couple more photos to my collection and order a photo album to document this special time.  It is just so special to look back and think that only 8 months ago we had been trying for 7 years and didn't think we would be able to have a baby at all.  This is going to be one special little IVF baby.  Thanks for reading today.  I hope you enjoyed this post, and I really appreciate you sharing this special time with me.  = )

  15. They pictures are beautiful! I never did maternity pictures, I actually avoid ALL pictures when I've been pregnant. It's not a good look for me. ;) However, with my last baby I decided to hire a birth photographer and that was the BEST decision I made. I know it seems weird and I would never have thought I'd ever do something like that but I was so glad. I love to look back at those pictures. And I especially love to look at my husband in those pictures and see the whole process through his reactions because in the moment I get absolute tunnel vision and really don't notice anyone else. So I just love to see what he was doing, what the room was doing, the looks on my face are just priceless. Ha! Have a happy labor!

  17. I love the pics! They are beautiful!! Enjoy these last few weeks. Rest, relax, and savor every moment. These are the last weeks of just the two of you. Soon you will be a very busy Mom wondering what you did with your free time before she was born. Don't worry, it will be here soon enough. This will be one of the happiest times in your life! Enjoy!!!
