Why Blogging?

Why Blogging? by popular blogger Walking in Memphis in High Heels

Why blogging? This is one of those questions that I get asked almost daily, and honestly I have never really even given it much thought.  It was actually Shane's idea almost 5 years ago to start blogging.  I thought the idea was crazy.  It turned out that I completely loved it.  Since then things have changed a lot.  I graduated from grad school.  Shane and I moved...twice.  We went through in vitro.  We had Leighton.  And now she is almost 3!  I got a promotion at work and travel quite a bit now.  There have been SO many life changes.  So with these changes, I've been thinking a lot about why I still blog...and this is why blogging is important to me:

1.  I have always loved writing.  When I was little I would write poems.  I would write songs.  I would even write stories.  I am probably a little biased, but for a 5 year old, I feel like I wrote some pretty good reads bahaha!

2.  Since I've become a mother, it has been SO nice to document my pregnancy and Leighton growing up!  This was something I never even really meant to do; it just happened.  But when I look back and can't remember at what age she said her first word or started rolling over, I am so happy I have lots of pictures and posts to document what happened.  I basically have professional pictures of her monthly since the day she was born.  That is something I will always cherish - having so many pictures and memories to look back on.

3.  Since day 1, this was my reason, and it's still true.  It holds me accountable.  For working out, for trying new trends that I would otherwise squirm at just the thought of.  For exploring and enjoying life.  I want to share things with you all that I love and enjoy that I hope you will in turn love and enjoy too.

4.  The friendships.  This was another thing that I found from day 1.  Blogging is this amazing little but yet big community.  And honestly so are the readers.  It's not just a little clique of girls all competing against each other.  It's actually the opposite.  It's a group of people who are comrades who lift each other up when they need it, cut the crap and set me straight when I need it and also support me no matter what.  People like Sandy.  And readers...there is nothing that makes me more happy from blogging when a reader comments or emails or messages me on IG or FB.  I love getting questions or comments from readers.  Whether it's trying a new off the shoulder top style you didn't think you could pull off or a successful first round of in vitro, I love getting a sweet note from my readers, and they truly make my day.

5.  Getting to work with companies I love and never would have dreamed I would get to work with.  This is completely a bonus and something that I NEVER even thought was possible with blogging.  Granted, blogging has changed A LOT over the last 5 years, but I had no idea that bloggers worked with brands.  I thought I was just posting iPhone pictures and talking about what I wore and ate and my workout for the day haha!  Little did I know that blogging would actually lead to be another full-time job for me.  It is so fun to get to work with brands sharing products that I've been honestly using for decades (long before I ever started blogging!)

I have no idea where blogging will take me over the next 5 years, but for now, I'm just enjoying getting to share my life with you.  Whether I'm training for my next half marathon or going through the terrible 2's, I love having a place where I can vent or encourage others.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for following along with my blog.  xo.
